Image of The Week: Cambodia – Balancing Boy on Lake Tonle Sap

This weeks image is another captured at Lake Tonle Sap, during my time in Cambodia a few years ago. I spotted this young boy standing on the front of a passing boat, and his posture and stance were incredibly still and upright. Although the boat was moving quite slowly, I was running quickly along side it, so I could capture him side on with the lush green background.

Hey Simon, Thanks mate. It took a bit of effort to keep up with the boat, to make sure I captured the green foliage in the background.

What we go through to get the shot hey ;) This one seems to be worth it, well done.

Hey Andi, He was stiff like a board, and as the boat swayed from side to side he just slightly adjusted himself. Thanks for stopping by.

Hey Peter, Yeah it was one of the moments mate. Where I was originally standing the photo would have been a bit busy in the background. So I decided to keep up with them, as I could see the nice green background ahead. Thanks for your comment mate.

With the boy standing up like that, is was also somewhat reminding me of the Khymer Rouge. Looks like he’s standing to attention. Again, crisp shot of his features.

Hey Dave, That’s an eerie thought mate, but spot on I reckon. It’s hard to imagine that boys as young as this were brainwashed into becomming killing machines for the Khmer Rouge. Whilst I was there, I did do a bit of reading on this subject during the visits to S21 and the killing fields. Hanunting…

Nice photo! To be young and fearless at my age I would have been as far back in the boat as I could to make sure I didnt fall out. His posture is remarkable and this is on the front of a moving boat.

Hey Kirk, Yeah it was quite unbelievable. He wasn’t moving an inch, firm and upright the whole way out. Thanks for stopping by.
