It was late April in 2006, and we were midway through a short sojourn through Cambodia and Vietnam, when we encountered some of the most chaotic traffic we had seen in years. It was Liberation Day, a public holiday in Vietnam that celebrates the liberation of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). It was a beautiful balmy evening, and it seemed as if every living sole from the DMZ to the Delta, was in Saigon that night, all cruising the streets on their scooters. We first positioned ourselves, high above the street at one of the many rooftop bars in the area. We had a few drinks, and watched the masses of people dodging and weaving their way to their destinations. After a short while you could actually see that, although appearing chaotic at first glance, it seemed there was method to their madness and we did not see one accident the whole time (although there were a few close calls).
This is a small clip from youtube that I captured on Liza’s little camera.
